The concrete stair and elevator towers have topped out, and the contractor has begun mounting the steel frame skeleton and precast concrete slabs today. This is a milestone in the buildings construction, as we will soon be able to see the volume of the building on site for the first time.
The concrete slabs are an important part of the buildings heating and energy strategy. Exposed concrete in the classrooms and special rooms will act as a thermal mass, absorbing the heat produced by the students, and providing a stable interior temperature and climate. Thermal mass and highly insulated walls combined with the school's hybrid-ventilation system make Mesterfjellet School a unique model for environmentally responsible school design.
