SPINN Congratulates our competetors and colleagues at Nordic Office of Architecture (formerly NSW) who together with Bjørbekk & Lindheim AS og Hent AS won the competition for a new 1-7 school in Larvik with their entry "Rambla".
While we would rather have won, we're still happy to now be able to share our entry "Wonderland" which was developed in collaboration with CEBRA Arkitekter, Østengen & Bergo Landskapsarkitekter, and Buer Entreprenør. The same team of engineers and contractors that we are working with on the construction of Mesterfjellet School, also in Larvik.
"Wonderland" is a hybrid building typology that challenges the recent trend in compact school design, and focuses on finding a balance between low-energy and good daylight in the classrom. "Wonderland" takes the best aspects of a compact atrium school, and combines it with the qualities of a "finger" or "comb" structure. We received high praise for the layout of the classrooms and associated learning areas which fully utilize the communications area to create different types of learning spaces and social zones for the students.
